With Lesbos off the table, no job and no plans for the near future, I suddenly found myself with complete freedom of what to do next. Concerning but also, exciting!
Where I was supposed to leave on wednesday, I now found myself at home, a little restless, eager to explore the world, but also completely without a plan. I didn’t want to spend much time waiting around, I needed a plan that required little preparation time. And suddenly it was clear as day. This sudden gap of free time gives me the opportunity to do something I usually wouldn’t ‘allow’ myself; to do something only because it’s fun. Because it doesn't give me work experience, I am not visiting any friends or family, not earning any money and not even learning a new language. It would be for me to have fun. But since I have literally nothing better to do and could use some new found excitement; why not?!
So, on Thursday I bought my ticket and on Sunday I am taking the plane to Bangkok! Just like basically every other person in Holland I will go backpacking in South-east Asia!
And it’s exactly this popularity that makes it able for me to go on such short notice. It is a well traveled area, easy for backpackers to go around, no big concern for safety and plenty of new people to meet on the way. Additionally, things are popular for a reason!
So, my backpack is packed, I am booking my first hostel today and I am leaving tomorrow! I will start in Bangkok and travel North from there, after Thailand I want to visit Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia, but who knows where life will take me?
Excited to start a new adventure and to do something I have never done before.
What I’ve learned in life is that coincidences never happen for nothing. Recognise them and follow what you believe in. New opportunities will arise while making this amazing trip. And knowing you people, and children, will benefit from your presence...... anyhow and anywhere in the world!
